If you are in Karnataka, now getting your property registered is going to become hassle-free and non-time consuming, promises the government.
Officials say that registration can now be done in less than 15 minutes. In fact, you can get the certified copy on the same day, officials claim.
The Stamps and Registration Department has introduced an online appointment system for property registration similar to those in the Passport Seva Kendras across the country for passport registration/ renewal.
Property buyers now have to register themselves with the Karnataka Valuation and e-Registration website and fix a date of their choice as per availability.
“If documents are correct, they will be approved within 12 minutes. Manually, it would take at least 45 minutes. With this system, we are not just saving people’s time, but also reducing the burden of our staff,” KV Trilok Chandra, Inspector General of Registration and Commissioner of Stamps, told The New Indian Express.
Users have to upload the required documents and even have the option of paying the fee online. Moreover, any property in the state can be registered in any-sub-registrars office within the state.
“Under the new system, people will be able to pay registration fee online and get appointments with senior officials of the sub-registrar’s office for verification of documents within three days of registration from the day of filing the application online,” Chandra told The Times of India.
The entire process which would previously take anywhere between a week to two weeks will now take only three days.
Apart from bringing a hassle-free experience for property buyers, the state government expects that it will curb corruption and menace of middlemen at the sub-registrar offices in the respective districts.
The department is also set to introduce mobile alert services for the process to make it easier for property buyers..
“At every stage, messages will be sent to the user mobile phone. Once they finish their pre-registration formalities, they will get the appointment number along with time and date. When they go to the Sub-registrar office, they can show their application details on their mobile phone just like showing e-tickets at multiplexes,’’ Chandra told TNIE.

A very welcome move and this will surely help in reducing the chaos that exist currently in the Sub Registrar Offices. However intricacies of the web portal will be known only after it starts operating real time. Also, with the kind of documentation issue that exist (like Land conversion orders, Tax Payment receipts and Khata issues), how this portal will resolve, time can only say. Sakala scheme launched towards corruption free application didnot yield much result as expected due to lack of coordination with departments and one can be hopeful that real time online registration to be more smooth.
Similar process is already running in Mumbai and is shown success so we are expecting that this will run smooth as well.
