CHENNAI: The Anti-Corruption Bureau of the CBI on Wednesday booked 17 central government employees for illegally subletting their official government quarters in Central Public Works Department (CPWD) quarters at KK Nagar in Chennai to 18 private persons and collecting rent.
The government employees has been accused of cheating the government, misappropriation of the money and committing criminal breach of trust by abusing their official position.
The accused include staff from Military Engineering Services (MES), Military Hospital in Defence Colony, Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), ministry of youth and sports affairs, accountant general, CPWD, ministry of defence, All India Radio, Coast Guard and Zoological Survey of India.
A CPWD staff working in Shastri Bhavan was accused of acting as main conduit between the government employees and the private persons, the CBI said.
The private persons illegally occupying the government quarters are also named in the case as they managed to get Aadhaar cards, ration cards and gas connections in their name using the CPWD quarters address.
